Jest kilka sposobów ulepszenia określonej pozycji. Jednym z nich jest zastosowanie DGPS czyli wersji różnicowej, która polega na określeniu pozycji satelitarnej punktu na Ziemi i porównaniu jej z rzeczywistą pozycją tego punktu wyznaczoną metodami np, geodezyjnymi. Po porównaniu obu pozycji mamy informację o różnicy, czyli o jaką wartość GPS zniekształca pozycje. Taka informacja może być rozsyłana za pomocą dodatkowego kanału już na Ziemi w postaci poprawki bądź za pomocą satelity geostacjonarnych systemu EGNOS.
Inną metodą która sprawdza się do odbiorników można powiedzieć nie przemieszczających się to uśrednianie pozycji w jednym punkcie.
Obecnie wykorzystując różnorakie kombinacje poprawek i za pomocą satelity geostacjonarnych możemy jesteśmy w stanie określić pozycję na Ziemi z dokładnością do 1cm.
